Hanoi (VNA) - The northern province of Bac Giang is working to mobilise resources for transport infrastructure development, thereby creating momentum for the locality's socio-economic growth and investment attraction.

According to the provincial People’s Committee, Bac Giang is closely coordinating with the Ministry of Transport, other ministries and sectors to expedite investment procedures for a series of projects. They include projects on building Kep-Ha Long railway, expanding Xuong Giang bridge, and completing the construction of a residential bridge over Hanoi - Bac Giang highway in Van Trung commune of Viet Yen district and of a bridge linking the southwest urban area to the international logistics centre in Bac Giang city.

Regarding provincial roads, the authorities are working to finish several projects such as a road connecting National Highway No. 37, National Highway No.17 and Vo Nhai in the neighbouring province of Thai Nguyen, Dong Viet bridge and its access road in Yen Dung district of Bac Giang province, a road linking My An port to National Highway No. 31 and National Highway No. 1, connecting provincial road 295 to National Highway 37 in Lang Giang district; and other roads as per the memorandum signed between Bac Giang and neighbouring localities.

The province also continues proposing the Ministry of Transport focus on upgrading the local railway infrastructure to increase train speed and expand goods stations. It is set to facilitate the Kep station to operate as an international multimodal transport one, hence forming a logistics center network to support import-export activities.

In February 2023, the Kep railway station began its international cargo transport services. The station’s handling capacity was increased from 80 to 100 carriages or containers per day. Freight includes electronics and industrial products, construction materials, industrial wood, and ore. There is a fleet of trains running from Kep to Dong Dang station in the northern border province of Lang Son and then to China’s Pingxiang station.

As part of its development endeavours, Bac Giang has allocated more than 9.5 trillion VND (385.55 million USD) worth of mid-term public investment capital for 2021-2025 to carry out 45 transport infrastructure projects.

Between 2021 and 2023, the province concentrated on constructing new transport routes and increasing its kilometre per 100 s.q kilometres as well as kilometre per 1,000 people. Its road transport system has so far been relatively evenly developed, significantly reducing the disparity in traffic density between delta and mountainous districts.

Notably, Bac Giang’s scale of investment in roads ensures a minimum level of Grade III for provincial and national roads and a minimum width of 6 metres for district roads. Its main road surface structure is mainly asphalt concrete and high-strength concrete. The local rural transport, meanwhile, has been improved, upgraded, hardened, and expanded, contributing to ensuring smooth access to remote areas in the province.

Several key bridge projects in Bac Giang have also been invested and constructed. They include the construction of the Dong Viet bridge as well as the expansion of many bridges, namely Nhu Nguyet, Dong Son, Ha Bac II, and A Lu, among others.

The Red River Delta province, situated about 50 km to the east of Hanoi, has a favourable geographical and economic location. Surrounded by major economic hubs, ports, and national highways, its position is at the crossroads of major trade routes. Specifically, Bac Giang lies adjacent to the Hanoi – Hai Phong – Quang Ninh key economic triangle, 110 km from Lang Son province’s Huu Nghi International Border Gate, 100 km from Hai Phong seaport, and 40 km from Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport. The locality is also endowed with favourable weather conditions, fertile land, and beautiful natural landscapes./.
