Hanoi (VNA) – Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Tran Thanh Nam was elected as President of the Vietnam-Mongolia Friendship Association for the 2021-2026 tenure at a congress on December 21.

Over the past tenure, the association has upheld its role as a bridge for cooperation between Vietnam and Mongolia in economy, trade and culture.

In 2020, amid the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, it stepped up information exchange via email and Vietnamese and Mongolian embassies in the respective countries.

The association aimed to maintain its relations with traditional partners in the new term, while creating conditions for the Mongolian side to get insight into the political, economic and social situation in Vietnam.

In her remarks, President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga urged the association to utilise IT, reform its operational method and pay more heed to personnel development.

Mongolian Ambassador to Vietnam Jigjee Serejav highlighted the traditional friendship between the two countries, saying Vietnam is an important partner of Mongolia in Southeast Asia.

The Mongolian Embassy will actively coordinate with the VUFO and the Vietnam-Mongolian Friendship Association in implementing programmes and activities to further promote the friendship and cooperation between people of the two countries, he pledged./.
