Rio Olympics: Vietnam finishes at 48th place

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam has achieved the best ever Olympic Games ranking at the Rio Olympics which closed in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on August 22 morning (Hanoi time).

With one gold and one silver, both won by marksman Hoang Xuan Vinh, the country finished at 48th in the medal tally.

Besides Vietnam, only three other countries in Southeast Asia won gold medals at the Games, which are Thailand (two golds, two silvers and two bronzes), Indonesia (one gold and two silvers) and Singapore (one gold). Malaysia brought home four silvers and one bronze and the Philippines got only one silver medal.

The US topped the medal tally with 46 golds, 37 silvers and 38 bronzes.

The host country, Brazil, stood at the 13th place.

The Rio Olympic Games, the first held in a South American country, saw the participation of 207 countries and territories

Japan will host the next Olympic Games in 2020.-VNA
