Stunning cherry blossom oasis in Dien Bien

Cherry blossoms, a distinctive flower of Japan, are now in full bloom on a flower island in the heart of Pa Khoang Lake in the northern province of Dien Bien. The Cherry Blossom Island has become a popular destination among tourists during the early days of each new year.

Located some 20 kilometres from the centre of the provincial capital Dien Bien Phu, the Cherry Blossom Island in Pa Khoang Lake is home to thousands of trees and situated at an altitude of over 1,000 metres above sea level, providing fresh, cool air.

The cherry blossoms are beginning to bloom vibrantly at this time of year, in the three colours of white, pink, and red. They generally bloom for about 15 days.

Cherry blossoms symbolise spring and represent beauty, delicacy, purity, and the inherent beauty of the human soul.

To honour the beauty of the cherry blossoms and give a boost to local tourism, Dien Bien holds a Cherry Blossom Festival each year in January, aiming to attract large numbers of tourists, especially this year, which is Dien Bien National Tourism Year 2024./.
