The ancient imperial city of Hue in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue will host a tourism promotion programme to coincide with the reopening of Phu Bai Airport next month.

Phan Tien Dung, director of the Thua Thien-Hue provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said the campaign would include a series of cultural and tourism events to celebrate 20 Hue relic sites and the 10th anniversary of Nha Nhac (Court Music)’s recognition as part of the world intangible cultural heritage.

The campaign, scheduled for September 1-25, will feature discounts on hotel rates and other services and attractions like free Nha Nhac performances.

The airport was closed on March 20 for runway repairs, and since then visitors to Hue had to fly to Da Nang, about 100km further south, and continue by road to Hue.

Despite the closure, the province welcomed more than one million tourists in the first seven months, an increase of three percent year-on-year, including 400,000 foreigners.-VNA
