Jakarta (VNA) – Twenty four Vietnamese, mostly tourists, remain stranded on the Indonesian island of Bali as volcanic ash from Mount Agung prompted the closure of Ngurah Rai International Airport, the island’s main airport.
According to Nguyen Thanh Giang, who is in charge of consular affairs at the Vietnamese Embassy in Indonesia, the tourists contacted the embassy for support on November 27, and were guided how to leave Bali.
Giang said after Lombok International Airport was closed on early November 28, the only way to leave Bali is to travel by land to Surabaya, which is the nearest location with a safe airport.
Earlier, at the advice of the embassy, another group of seven Vietnamese tourists travelled to Surabaya city by ferry and then took a flight to Jakarta. They safely arrived in Jakarta on November 27 evening.
On its Facebook page, the embassy issued warnings about the eruption of Mount Agung and urged Vietnamese tourists stranded at Ngurah Rai airport to seek ways to leave Bali as soon as possible.
Vietnamese citizens needing support can contact the embassy’s hotline at 62811161025 or local tour guide’s numbers 6285792640918 and 6281338643014.
