Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung will attend the 26th ASEAN Summit in Malaysia from April 26-27 at the invitation of his Malaysian counterpart Najib Razak.
The Vietnamese delegation’s participation in the 26th Summit is expected to boost ASEAN connectivity, strengthen solidarity and unity, and elevate the role of the bloc in ensuring peace, security, cooperation and development in the region.
The opening ceremony, plenary session and bilateral meetings will take place in Kuala Lumpur, while the retreat and the closing ceremony will be held in Langkawi.
During the Summit, ASEAN leaders will focus on discussing strategies and measures towards establishing the ASEAN Community in 2015 and building the ASEAN Community’s Post-2015 Vision.
Themed “Our People, Our Community, Our Vision”, the summit will also discuss ways to strengthen ASEAN institutions, bring ASEAN people closer, intensify cooperation between small- and medium-sized enterprises, expand intra-bloc trade and investment, and boost regional peace and security.
Along with the regular Presidency Declaration, the 2015 Summit plans to adopt the Kuala Lumpur Declaration on a People-Centred ASEAN, the Langkawi Declaration on the Global Movement of Moderates, and the Kuala Lumpur Declaration on Institutionalising the Resilience of ASEAN and its Communities and Peoples to Disasters and Climate Change.
Founded in 1967, the ASEAN, or the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, currently comprises Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Myanmar, Laos, the Philippines, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia and Vietnam.-VNA
