50-year-old crab noodle soup restaurant in Hanoi

Decades ago, crab thick noodle soup (canh bun cua) was a beloved dish among the people of Hanoi. Street vendors could be found selling it on every corner of the city.

However, over time, its popularity has waned. Nowadays, there are only a handful of restaurants in Hanoi that still offer this dish. One well-known spot is Ly's Family Restaurant, located at No. 2 Hang Chieu in the Hoan Kiem District.

Ly's restaurant is one of the most bustling establishments in Hanoi, serving an impressive amount of 300-400 bowls of their signature crab thick noodle soup every day. The peak hours are typically around noon and in the evening.

What sets their soup apart from other variations is the combination of fresh vegetables, thick noodles, and a slightly salty taste, creating a unique and flavorful experience.

The cost is incredibly affordable, at just 20,000 dong, less than one US dollar, for a basic serving, making it accessible to nearly everyone. If you'd like to enhance your dish, you can do so by adding extra toppings for just 5,000 dong each.

This restaurant caters to a diverse clientele, including both local residents of all ages and international tourists
