The exhibition is open to visitors from October 21-30 at the Vincom Center for Contemporary Art (VCCA), Vincom Royal City in Hanoi. Along with the Ocean Keeper project, the ‘Live sea’ exhibition conveys a message of preserving the ocean as humanity’s second home. Regarding marine plastic waste pollution, one of the world’s most acute environmental problems, Vietnam is ranked 4th globally in terms of mismanaged plastic waste. Ever-increasing amounts of plastic waste pose significant hazards to marine wildlife. Vietnam is striving to reduce 75 percent of plastic waste in the ocean by 2030. (Photo: VietnamPlus)

The exhibition conveys a message of preserving the ocean, as humanity’s second home. All artworks showcased at the event convey a message of the beauty of the oceans and a call for the public to protect them. (Photo: VietnamPlus)
8th Davines Art Series: “Live sea” conveys message on ocean protection ảnh 3The most visually impressive is probably installation artworks. In the photo is an artwork called 'Sea Portrait' by Do Hiep and his friends at Arena. The work is attracting young people who love to take backlight photos. Instead of portraying the sea with waves rushing ashore, Do Hiep’s artwork presents the image of sea as a silent and mysterious entity. As proposed by the General Director of the Vietnam Administration of Seas and Islands, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE) has promoted the implementation of the national action plan for marine plastic waste management by 2030, with the aim of reducing 75 percent of plastic waste in the ocean by the year. The most important action to limit marine debris is to boost communications to raise public awareness and change people’s behaviour towards plastic products and marine plastics. Therefore, for each period, MoNRE and its affiliates will study, build and implement projects communicating the harmful effects of single-use plastic products like non-degradable plastic bags on seas and oceans, marine ecosystems, the environment, and human health, said Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Le Minh Ngan. The Prime Minister issued the national action plan on marine plastic waste management on December 4, 2019. By 2030, the action plan aims to reduce 75 percent of plastic waste in the ocean, have 100 percent of lost or discarded fishing tools collected, and eradicate the direct discharge of fishing tools into the ocean. Vietnam hopes all tourist sites, tourist accommodation establishments and other tourism service providers in coastal areas will not use disposable plastic products or non-biodegradable plastic bags. Meanwhile, all coastal nature reserves will become free of plastic waste by 2030. (Photo: VietnamPlus)

8th Davines Art Series: “Live sea” conveys message on ocean protection ảnh 7Photographer Duong Minh Long brings to the ‘Live Sea’ exhibition six panorama photos which demonstrate the vastness and magnificence of the sea. Vietnam boasts a 3,260km-long coastline, nearly 3,000 inshore islands, and Truong Sa (Spratly) and Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelagos in the centre of the East Sea. The country also has a sea area of about 1 million sq.km in the East Sea. Sea-based economic sectors contribute 10 percent of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP), according to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. Therefore, protecting the marine environment and reducing marine plastic waste pollution is of great significance to the nation. (Photo: VietnamPlus)
