A century of preserving wood-fired coffee roastery in Hanoi

There's a small corner in the heart of Hanoi that is always bustling with life. This is "Thai Coffee" on Trieu Viet Vuong Street, famed for its wood-fired coffee beans—a traditional roasting method that dates back to the 1920s. In today's bulletin, we invite you to visit this unique coffee shop.

"Thai Coffee" began with an elderly man named Nguyen Van Den, who ran a coffee vendor in the 1920s. After tasting coffee for the first time from French soldiers, he decided to make a living in Hanoi with this novel beverage. From his modest coffee stall, his son Thai eventually opened a small café.

Generation after generation, the coffee shop has passed through the hands of the family. Today, after nearly 100 years, Nguyen Duc Hieu, the great-grandson of Nguyen Van Den, runs the café as the fourth generation.

Thai Coffee is known for their ‘black’ and ‘brown coffee’.

The signature taste of Thai Coffee comes from coffee beans roasted over wood, giving the brew a smoky hint in every sip. This wood-fired roasting method has become the café’s trademark, and to this day, Thai Coffee is one of the few places that still preserves this artisanal way of preparing coffee.

By preserving the original taste of the coffee from the early days, Thai Coffee has become a favorite spot for many coffee lovers and street café enthusiasts./.
