ABAC backs economic integration in Asia-Pacific

Jakarta (VNA) – A session focusing on private enterprises and business spirit was held in Jakarta capital city of Indonesia on April 24, within the framework of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Business Advisory Council (ABAC) II Meeting.

The main agenda of the session was to encourage economic integration in the Asia-Pacific.

It discussed cooperation amid complicated developments of the global economy, as well as recommendations of ABAC which will be submitted to leaders of the economies which are members of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum later this year.

Speaking at the opening session, President of ABAC Indonesia Anindya N Bakrie stressed that the forum will benefit participating economies under various forms of cooperation, in both trade and investment.

He added that Indonesia boasts a huge opportunity for the country’s development, by taking advantage of the role of digital economy in improving productivity and people’s livelihoods.

Meanwhile, Chairman of ABAC Papua New Guinea Wayne Golding Obe said it is necessary to improve views on the private economic sector and introduce in the national policy for business development.

The ABAC II Meeting is underway in Indonesia from April 23 to 26, drawing the participation of 150 business leaders from 21 APEC member economies.

Established in 1995 by APEC leaders, ABAC holds its meetings four times a year to discuss and put forward recommendation. -VNA
