The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has granted an 80 million USD loan to Myanmar to fund the upgrade of a 54-km highway in the Ayeyarwady region.
The upgrade of the road, which was badly damaged by storm Nargis in 2008, will improve the connection between the regional localities of Pyapon and Maubin, reduce transporting time and cost and contribute to boosting economic growth in the country’s major rice production area.
The construction of the highway is due to be completed on September 2018.
The loan is part of the ADB’s commitment to help Myanmar build a modern road network in the future.-VNA
