The Asian Development Bank (ADB) on September 26 approved a preferential loan of 30 million USD to help Cambodia improve the quality of its vocational training.

The bank said it its release that the programme will help Cambodia increase the quality of education, improve technical training campuses, train technical and vocational teaching staff, and provide skills for women and disadvantaged members of society.

The project also comprises programmes to improve management and monitoring of educational and vocational training institutions, in order to help them implement vocational courses in number of priority areas such as construction, repairs and maintenance, communication technology and business.

According to ADB expert Norman Larocque, Cambodia’s vocational training system has not reached its full potential and, in order to build a highly skilled workforce, it is necessary to overhaul the system and invest in measures to meet quality standards.

Cambodia will co-finance more than 2 million USD for the programme, which is scheduled to run until the end of 2019.-VNA
