Hanoi, (VNA) - The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

– Major targets for the first quarter of 2023 were basically reached, with political security, macro-economic stability and major economic balances maintained, inflation controlled, security-defence and social order ensured, and external relations and international integration strengthened, stated Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
Despite difficulties in the world situation, the living conditions of the people continued to be improved, the PM said while chairing the Government’s online meeting with 63 localities nationwide and the Cabinet’s regular meeting on April 3.Read full text

– Cuba always pays special attention to the all-round ties with Vietnam, including cooperation in maintaining historical memories, stated First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee and President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel on March 31. 
Hosting a Vietnamese delegation from the Ministry of National Defence who is in Cuba to produce a documentary series about the Vietnam-Cuba defence relations, the Cuban leader hailed the coordination between the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defence and the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba (FAR) in completing the first episode, entitled “Two hearts beat as one”, as part of the series named “Vietnam-Cuba defence relations: 60 years of construction and development”.Read full text

– The State visit to Vietnam by Governor-General of Australia David Hurley from April 3-6 is expected to create new momentum for the bilateral ties, according to a scholar from the University of Queensland in Australia.
Nguyen Hong Hai, a researcher at the Centre for Policy Futures under the University of Queensland, said the visit, in the context of the 50th anniversary of the bilateral diplomatic ties (February 26, 1973) and the 5th anniversary of the bilateral strategic partnership (March 15, 2018) in 2023, demonstrates the importance Australia attaches to the milestones, as well as and the consensus in enhancing high-level meetings and contacts, thus consolidating the mutual political trust.Read full text

- After having shown signs of recovery in the previous month, the Vietnamese manufacturing sector took a step back in March, according to S&P Global - the world’s foremost provider of credit ratings, benchmarks and analytics in the global capital and commodity markets.
In its April 3 news release, S&P Global said that renewed falls were seen in output, new orders and employment amid reports of muted customer demand.Read full text

– Fisheries export value was estimated at 1.85 billion USD in the first quarter (Q1) of this year, a fall of 27% compared to the same period last year due to lower consumption and import demand under the impacts of inflation and economic recession, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).
As of the end of Q1, shrimp exports earned 577 million USD, a year-on-year drop of 40%, while the export of tra and tuna fish brought home 447 million USD and 179 million USD, down 32% and 31%, respectively.Read full text

– The People’s Committee of the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang has decided to fine a man over 2.36 billion VND (100,613 USD) for his violations of fishing regulations.
The administrative fine has been imposed in line with the Government’s Decree No. 42/2019/ND-CP dated May 16, 2019 on the handling of wrongdoings in the fishery sector.Read full text

– Sixteen projects worth over 94 trillion VND (4 billion USD) are planned to be implemented in the Mekong Delta to help the region respond to climate change.
Since March 2022, the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) has worked with six development partners in organising over 10 fact-finding tours and working sessions with 13 Mekong Delta localities and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on the projects’ scales and technical standards.Read full text

– The Education for Nature –Vietnam (ENV) has released a film challenging the traditional belief that ivory is a symbol of luxury and good fortune.
The film tells about a glamorous woman who is famous and well-liked by the public. As she attended a party, the host presented her with an ivory gift, which she subsequently flaunts on the social media.
