Hanoi (VNA) - The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

- A respect-paying ceremony in the national mourning etiquette was solemnly held for General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong at the National Funeral Hall in Hanoi, the Thong Nhat Hall in Ho Chi Minh City, and his hometown in Dong Hoi commune of Hanoi’s Dong Anh district on July 25.

The respect-paying ceremony was organised by the CPV Central Committee, the National Assembly (NA), the State President, the Government, the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee, and the bereaved family. Read full story

- Since the early morning of July 25, large numbers of leaders and people from all walks of life have paid their last respects to Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong at the National Funeral Hall in Hanoi, the Thong Nhat Hall in Ho Chi Minh City, and in his hometown in Dong Hoi commune of Hanoi’s Dong Anh district, showing their great grief over the passing of the Party leader.

With his boundless sadness, Politburo member and State President To Lam wrote on the book of condolences at the respect-paying ceremony at the National Funeral Hall that Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong was a beloved person of the Vietnamese nation, a particularly excellent leader, a staunch communist, and a bright example who had tirelessly studied and followed President Ho Chi Minh's thought, morality and style, a greatly prestigious figure of the Vietnamese Party, State, and people, and also a great friend of the people around the world.Read full story

- Leaders of the United Nations (UN) and ambassadors of countries to the UN on July 24 paid tribute to General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong at the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the UN in New York, the US.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres spoke highly of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's key leadership role and acknowledged that under the leadership of the Party chief, Vietnam has advanced forward on the breakthrough development journey and become an increasingly important partner of the UN. - State President To Lam hosted a reception in Hanoi on July 25 for the Republic of Korea (RoK)’s Prime Minister Han Duck Soo who is leading a high-level delegation of the Korean Government to Vietnam to pay respect to Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
