Agro-forestry-fisheries exports fetch 38.48 bln US in nine months

In the first nine months of 2023, Vietnam’s total export of agro-forestry-fisheries products hit 38.48 billion USD, down 5.1% over the same period last year, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) announced.

Hanoi (VNA) – In the first nine months of 2023, Vietnam’s total export of agro-forestry-fisheries products hit 38.48 billion USD, down 5.1% over the same period last year, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) announced. 

According to a report from the MARD, in the nine-month period, the total export and import turnover of agro-forestry-fisheries products reached 68.92 billion USD, a decrease of 7.5% compared to the same period last year. Of which, the total exports hit 38.48 billion USD while the total imports 30.44 billion USD, resulting a trade surplus of 8.04 billion USD, an increase of 22.5% compared to the same period last year.

The export turnover of agro-forestry-fishery products in September alone was 4.8 billion USD, down 2.7% from August 2023 and up 22% compared to September 2022. Of which, the export turnover of agricultural products reached 2.45 billion USD, up 46.9% compared to September 2022; livestock 45.3 million USD and 32.6%; forest products 1.28 billion USD and 7.3%; seafood 850 million USD and 0.8%. The export of production input hit 166.5 million USD, a decrease of 5.5%.

The total export turnover of agro-forestry-fishery products in the first nine months of 2023 was 38.48 billion USD, down 5.1% over the same period last year.  Of which, seafood reached 6.64 billion USD, a decrease of 21.7%; forest products 10.44 billion USD, down 20.6%; and production input 1.49 billion USD, down 20.2%.

Particularly, the export value of agricultural products and livestock increased, with that of agricultural products reaching 19.54 billion USD, an increase of 16.7%.

The average export price of some major agricultural products decreased. Specifically, the export price of rubber reached 1,335 USD per tonne, down 18.7%; tea at 1,711 USD per tonne, down 2.3%, and cashew nuts at 5,722 USD per tonne, down 4.5%.

Pepper was sold for 3,309 USD per tonne, down 25.1%; cassava and cassava products 420 USD per tonne, down 4.8%. Particularly, the price of rice reached 553 USD per tonne, up 14% and that of coffee 2,499 USD per tonne, up 9.9%.

Regarding the markets, in the first nine months, the export value of agro-forestry-fishery products to Asian markets reached 18.71 billion USD, an increase of 4.9% year-on-year. The American market reached 8.73 billion USD, down 22.5%, while the European market was at 4.17 billion USD, down 11.2%. The African market hit 809 million USD, up 18.8%, and the Oceania market 570 million USD, down 18.6%.

China, the US, and Japan continue to be the three largest export markets of Vietnam's agro-forestry-fisheries products, accounting for 22.1%, 20.7%, and 7.6%, respectively.

In the coming time, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will continue to promote the development of domestic consumption and exports. It will continue to handle market issues to create favourable conditions for the export of agricultural and aquatic products, especially to the markets of China, the US, the EU, and the Eurasian Economic Union.

The ministry will promote the advantages of the FTAs, especially the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), to encourage the export of key agro-forestry-fishery products and support businesses in signing new export orders.

MARD is also responsible for the support trademark and geographical indication protection for Vietnam's export products abroad.

It is the ministry’s responsibility to monitor global pricing and supply sources of essential food items, and report to the Domestic Market Steering Group and the Government's Price Steering Committee.

MARD will also coordinate with localities to support the processing and consumption of agricultural products during the harvest season, and to develop plans to prepare goods, ensuring supply sources to serve domestic needs during the year-end holidays./.
