Vietnam earned 2.1 billion USD from agroforestry-seafood exports in June, bringing the six-month total export values to 12 billion USD, a year-on-year surge of 38.7 percent.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), agricultural products continued to play an important role, with an export turnover of 7 billion USD, representing a year-on-year 1.5-fold increase.
The country shipped 913,000 tonnes of coffee overseas in the period for almost 2 billion USD, up 38.6 percent in volume and over two fold increase in value year-on-year. Belgium is now the second biggest importer of Vietnam’s coffee after the US with import value of 178.5 million USD.
The nation also exported nearly 4 million tonnes of rice for nearly 2 billion USD and 274,000 tonnes of rubber worth 1.2 billion USD in the first half of the year.
To maintain export growth, MARD asked businesses to improve the quality of agroforestry and fisheries products and promote their products in big markets while working with foreign relevant agencies to remove trade technical barriers.
The ministry also asked relevant agencies to devise policies to minimise post-harvest losses in agriculture and aquaculture and soon build new standards for seafood processing and preservation./.
