A workshop on the role of female parliamentarians in lawmaking will take place in Hanoi from Nov. 29-Dec. 3.
The workshop, hosted by the Vietnam National Assembly, and with the participation of nine member countries and observers of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), will discuss the function of legislation and the role of female parliamentarians, their involvement in law building, and the integration of gender issues into the lawmaking process, said a press briefing on the workshop held in Hanoi on Nov. 27.
It will be a forum to share information and experiences on gender integration in the parliamentary activities of member countries.
It is expected to contribute to enhancing cooperation among female AIPA parliamentarians, promoting their role in parliament activities, and developing a report for the 31st AIPA General Assembly scheduled for Vietnam next September, which will include detailed proposals to harmonise laws on gender equality among member countries.
The workshop will also draw representatives from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the UN Women Development Fund and the UN Childrens’ Fund./.
