Manila (VNA) – The ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) has committed to boosting its engagements with ASEAN for the development of a strong ASEAN Community.

The commitment was made by Pantaleon Alvarez, Speaker of the Philippine House of Representatives and current AIPA President, in his speech concluding the 38th AIPA General Assembly (AIPA-38), which ran in the Philippines from September 16 to 19.

Pantaleon Alvarez said the AIPA-38 was a success thanks to effective contributions of participants, adding that the general assembly passed 21 resolutions on subjects significant to the ASEAN Community.

He urged member parliaments to realise these resolutions through law-making process and recommended AIPA work closely with the ASEAN member states in overcoming new challenges arising on their path towards the ASEAN Community Vision 2025.

He said despite differences, solidarity and consensus among participating delegates reflect a strong and growing AIPA.

The ending session saw the post of AIPA President transferred to Singapore, which will host the next AIPA General Assembly from September 3 to 7 in 2018.-VNA
