Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Manh Hung visited the community of Vietnamese living in the southern Lao province of Champassak on Feb. 9.
The Chairman of the Vietnamese Association in Champassak, Cao Dinh Hanh said the association’s membership number around 3,000. Most Vietnamese in the province are small traders and workers, who have stable jobs and incomes.
According to Hanh, the community has built a primary school with 850 pupils, and many Vietnamese children have been sent overseas including to Vietnam , for higher education.
Ambassador Hung extended New Year greetings to the community and praised their activities during the past year, which he said contributed the friendship between Vietnam and Laos . He informed the overseas Vietnamese that bilateral trade between the two countries in 2013 surpassed 1 billion USD for the first time, and Vietnam and Laos have completed the upgrading and building more markers along their borderline.-VNA
