Tuyen Quang (VNA) – An ancient semicircular musical stone has been unearthed at Phu Lam pagoda, Yen Son district, the northern province of Tuyen Quang, according to Ly Manh Thang, deputy director of the provincial museum.
The green marble musical stone, made during the Later Le dynasty (16th -17th centuries), was found when local people were razing the ground in preparation for a ceremony to recognise Phu Lam Pagoda as a provinical relic site.
The 1.96 metre stone makes melodious sounds when two relief carving circles on the stone are hit.
This is the first ancient musical stone to be found in Phu Lam pagoda area.
Two similar ancient musical stones are being kept in ancient Long Cam pagoda, Ha Phong commune, Ha Trung district, the central province of Thanh Hoa.-VNA
