Singapore (VNA) – Google’s mobile payment system, Android Pay was launched in Singapore on June 28, making the country the first in Asia to have the system.

Initially, the service will work with MasterCard and Visa cards from five banks in the city-state which are DBS Bank, OCBC Bank, POSB, Standard Chartered Bank and UOB, and it will integrate with other loyalty cards of local enterprises.

Singapore is the third country adopting Android Pay following the US last September and the UK last month.
The launch of the Google system in Singapore came shortly after the introduction of Apple Pay in April and Samsung Pay in early June this year.

These latest mobile payment services will store customers’ credit card data on their cell phones and use the Near Field Communication (NFC) technology to transmit safe data between mobile phone and payment machines at purchasing points.

Android Pay is available on all Adroid devices that are NFC-enabled and running on Adroid KitKat 4.4 and above. It is also the sole payment service to support loyalty schemes.

Google Singapore said they are negotiating to introduce the service to NTUC Link Plus, which has more than 1.75 million members, in order to create more added values for customers.-VNA
