At the Complex of Hue Monuments (Source: VNA) ThuaThien-Hue (VNA) – A ceremony celebrating the 25th anniversary of UNESCOrecognition of the Complex of Hue Monuments as a site of world culturalheritage (December 1993) took place in Hue city, in the central province ofThua Thien-Hue on September 7.
After thewar, the complex was seriously ravaged with 400 out of 1,400 works indilapidated conditions.
On February12, 1996, the Prime Minister issued Decision No.105/TTg that approved a projectto preserve and uphold the values of the complex for the 2010-2020 period.
Director ofthe Hue Monuments Conservation Centre Phan Thanh Hai said Hue has been hailedby UNESCO as the leading Vietnamese locality in terms of heritage preservation,which turned it into a model centre for technological heritage transfer in theAsia-Pacific.
Over thepast few years, around 170 works of different sizes were restored – most notablyNgo Mon, Thai Hoa Palace, Hien Lam Cac, Duyet Thi Duong; as well as the royaltombs of Kings Gia Long, Dong Khanh, Thieu Tri, and Tu Duc, among others.
Hai said therestoration not only revived the cultural heritages but also made importantcontributions to urban landscaping, turning Hue into a must-see destination inthe Central Heritage Road Tour.
Theceremony also marked the 15th anniversary of Hue royal court music being recognisedas a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
Over thepast year, tourist arrivals to the ancient capital of Hue have grown by 15-18percent year-on-year.
This year,the centre is expected to welcome over 3 million visitors. –VNA
