Quang Nam (VNA) – Vietnamese Minister of Finance Dinh Tien Dung, Chairman of the APEC 2017 Finance Ministers’ Meeting (FMM),  has expected to receive further support from the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

Meeting OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurria on the sidelines of the 2017 APEC FMM in central Quang Nam province on October 20, Dung thanked OECD’s participation in activities within the framework of FMM hosted by the Vietnamese Ministry of Finance.

He spoke highly of OECD experts’ help to Vietnam in Long-term Investment in Infrastructure, and Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS), as well as OECD’s technical assistance to the country, especially in taxation.

Vietnam is striving to approach to OECD’s standards in improving market economy institutions to fine-tune the economy’s competitiveness, he said, adding that OECD and the Ministry of Finance should join hands to carry out cooperation in prioritised fields for mutual benefits.

Meanwhile, Gurria said that he is willing to assist Vietnam in preparing and chairing events within the framework of the APEC 2017 Finance Ministers’ Process (FMP).

The OECD is working closely with the FMP to implement priorities in BEPS, finance for infrastructure and financial inclusion, he stressed, saying that the OECD has helped the Ministry of Finance to study and build international tax policies, particularly considering its participation in action programmes to prevent BEPS initiated by the OECD.

The OECD will coordinate closely with the Ministry of Finance and provide technical support and experts as well as share experience in prioritised topics of Vietnam’s interests in the APEC 2017 FMP, he said.-VNA
