Artist with burning passion for Tonkin villages

Graduating the Hanoi Academy of Theatre and Cinema in Art Design, artist Tran Nguyen gained widespread recognition after sharing his early works depicting rural life on social media in 2021. Since then, he has continued to delve into the landscapes and culture of villages across three regions of Vietnam, with the hope of “awakening” the peaceful memories of the countryside, that hold the essence of many childhoods. Join us to take a look at his intriguing paintings.

Born in 1990 and raised in a farming family in Nam Dinh province, the images of Vietnam’s northern countryside have been deeply ingrained in Tran Nguyen’s memory since childhood. These scenes have long inspired his artistic creations.

With a free-spirited painting style and a preference for warm, nostalgic tones like yellow, brown, and earthy hues, Tran Nguyen’s works, painted in oil and acrylic in a realist style, vividly bring to life the memories of his rural upbringing.

Each of Tran Nguyen's paintings is like a frame in a film, rewinding time and taking viewers back to the peaceful and simple countryside of the past.

The three-compartment house with two wings, the water well, the banyan tree, and the simple bamboo bed—these rustic images, once seemingly fading from modern life, have been “revived” in the paintings of artist Tran Nguyen.

His works really evoke a flood of memories, recalling the simple yet profound experiences of childhood./.
