The 11 th ASEAN-Canada Dialogue was held in Singapore on July 2 to review the progress of the Plan of Action (2010-2015) to implement the Joint Declaration on ASEAN-Canada Enhanced Partnership across the political-security, economic, and socio-cultural fields as well as development cooperation, according to the ASEAN Secretariat.
The meeting stressed the importance of visioning the next phase of ASEAN-Canada cooperation, including the drafting of a new plan of action for the post-2015 period.
Participants also discussed ways and means to strengthen and enhance cooperation in non-traditional security issues including counter terrorism, transnational crime, maritime security, and human rights.
ASEAN appreciated Canada’s strong commitment in supporting ASEAN’s effort to achieve its Community-building goals by 2015 and its post-2015 agenda.
Canada reiterated its support for ASEAN’s central role in the regional architecture and looked forward to working with ASEAN to further strengthen regional mechanisms for peace, stability and development in the Asia-Pacific region.
The participants exchanged views on regional and international issues of common interests and concerns.-VNA
