ASEAN Connectivity Forum highlights digital integration efforts

The ASEAN-Korea Centre hosted the 11th ASEAN Connectivity Forum on digital connectivity in Seoul on January 9, bringing together crowds of experts and scholars from governments and the private sector of the Republic of Korea (RoK) and ASEAN member nations, as the two sides are implementing the Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity 2025.

Seoul (VNA) - The ASEAN-Korea Centre hosted the 11th ASEAN Connectivity Forum ondigital connectivity in Seoul on January 9, bringing together crowds of experts andscholars from governments and the private sector of the Republic of Korea (RoK)and ASEAN member nations, as the two sides are implementingthe Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity 2025.

The plan aims to group the ASEAN economic community into a singlemarket and production base, focusing on five strategic objectives:sustainable infrastructure, digital innovation, seamless logistics, regulatoryexcellence, and people mobility for ASEAN integration.

In his keynote speech at the opening ceremony, former ASEANSecretary-General Dato Lim Jock Hoi highlighted the direction ASEAN shouldtake in digital connectivity and opportunities for the RoK.

The first working session between ASEAN and Korean experts delvedinto the current status of ASEAN's connectivity efforts and future plans,emphasising regional cooperation for digital connectivity through the ASEANDigital Master Plan.

Discussions also covered ongoing negotiations on the ASEAN Digital EconomyFramework Agreement (DEFA), the development of internet infrastructure, datamanagement, collaboration between ASEAN and the RoK and the integration ofregional payment systems.

At the second session on the ASEAN Digital Connectivity Project, governmentofficials from the 10 ASEAN member states shared insights into digitalconnectivity projects. Their presentations covered key policy updates in areas such as5G networks, digital currency, cybersecurity and e-commerce market analysis.

Tofoster business opportunities, an online business meeting is taking place from January10 to February 8,  providing RoK companiesinterested in ASEAN connectivity projects with a platform for engagement./.
