The 9 th ASEAN Chiefs of Defence Forces Informal Meeting (ACDFIM-9) took place in Phnom Penh, Cambodia on March 29, drawing the participation of representatives from all ten member countries.
The Vietnamese delegation was led by Sen. Lieut. Gen. Do Ba Ty, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Deputy Minister of National Defence.
In his opening speech, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) Gen. Pol Saroeun, ACDFIM-9 Chair, said the meeting will help strengthen friendship between ASEAN countries and bring greater benefits and achievements in actual cooperation between ASEAN countries’ armies, contributing to regional peace and stability.
At the meeting, the RCAF Commander-in-Chief presented assessments on promoting possibilities of joint military operations towards the creation of an ASEAN Community in 2015.
The meeting heard reports on the second ASEAN Military Operations Information Meeting (AMOIM-2) and the 9 th ASEAN Military Intelligence Informal Meeting (AMIIM-9).
Participants discussed future activities, a two-year action plan and a joint statement of ACDFIM-9 and signed related documents.
At the end of the meeting, Myanmar ’s Army Commander took the role as the host country of ACDFIM-10.
Later in the day, Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen is scheduled to receive the heads of delegations to ADCFIM-9.-VNA
