ASEAN-EU Senior Officials Meeting opens in Thailand

Bangkok (VNA) – The 24th SeniorOfficials Meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and theEuropean Union (EU) started in Bangkok, Thailand on July 5.

The meeting was attended by 40 delegationsfrom ASEAN and EU members, along with the European External Action Service andthe ASEAN Secretariat. Vietnam’s delegation was led by Deputy Minister ofForeign Affairs Nguyen Quoc Dung.

The event aimed to bolster ASEAN – EU cooperation,as well as celebrate the 40th anniversary of ASEAN – EU Dialogue Relations,with Thailand being the current coordinator.

Participants will evaluate progress ofASEAN – EU cooperation in accordance with the Bandar Seri Begawan Action Plan (2013-2017)and discuss the next plan in 2018-2022.

Through the meeting, ASEAN and EU relationsare hoped to be enhanced in various fields such as trade, sustainable development,climate change, people-to-people exchange and security.

Besides, delegates will discuss preparationsfor the ASEAN Post Ministerial Conference (PMC) with EU in Manila next monthand activities to mark the 40th anniversary of ASEAN – EU Dialogue Relations.-VNA
