Vientiane (VNA) – The 49th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) will kick off in Vientiane, Laos, on July 24 with the attendance of Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith.
The Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed the information at a press conference held exclusively for Lao reporters on July 16.
The ministers will exchange issues discussed at the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Retreat in Vientiane in February and seek ways to increase ASEAN connectivity, especially the implementation of the ASEAN Political-Security Community Blueprint 2025.
They will talk about the work of the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights and preparations for relevant meetings such as the Southeast Asian nuclear-weapon-free zone conference, the sixth East Asia Summit (EAS) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, and the 23 rd ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF).
The ASEAN foreign ministers are due to meet with their extra-bloc partners to evaluate and map out cooperation orientations in the coming time.
Over 400 foreign reporters have registered to cover the AMM and related meetings.
Laos is working as the chair of ASEAN in 2016.-VNA
