Vietnam’s Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung joined leaders of ASEANmember states, ASEAN partners and representatives of the WB, ADB and IMFat the ASEAN Global Dialogue held in Phnom Penh , Cambodia onNovember 20.
Addressing the function, PM Dung spoke highly ofCambodia ’s initiative to hold the first ASEAN Global Dialogue, sayingthat it is a good opportunity for countries to exchange views onregional and global economic issues, as well as emerging challenges.
He valued the active roles of ASEAN and East Asia in building a stable and prosperous region.
Vietnam will make positive contribution to the common efforts to ensure the sustainable development goal, Dung affirmed.
Herequested that developed countries assist developing countries inadapting to climate change, developing agricultural production, usingnatural resources in a sustainable manner, while increasing financialsupport and facilitating technological transfer.
UNorganisations, the WB and ADB can play an important role throughresearch, consultation, policy recommendations and coordinatingcooperation between the countries to reach the goal.
Atthe talks, participants discussed measures to boost cooperationconcerning global issues, including the economic crisis, energysecurity, food security and sustainable development.
ASEANcountries called on their partners and international financialorganisations to continue support for ASEAN in the implementation ofregional connectivity and integration.
The same day, PMDung and leaders of the US, Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore, NewZealand and Australia attended the unofficial summit of the TransPacific Economic Partnership Agreement (TPP).
This is the first high-level meeting of the seven TPP member leaders on the occasion of the East Asia Summit.

To make TPP an effective cooperationmechanism, PM Dung asked the members to push for balanced agreements fordevelopment and assist developing members in participating deeper inthe global chain with a view to maintain the dynamism and leading roleof Asia-Pacific in the world’s economy.
Leaders of theseven TPP members stressed the prospect of a broad and deep economicconnection within the framework of TPP is important.
Theyhighly valued the outcome of negotiations over the last three years,and agreed to make greater effort to conclude the process in 2013.
On November 19, US President Barack Obama and leaders of ASEANmembers discussed an initiative to expand US-ASEAN bilateral trade andinvestment cooperation.
The aim of the initiative is to createconditions for Asian countries to join the TPP. The US wants to expandthe partnership to include Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar – allASEAN members that do not participate in the Asia Pacific EconomicCooperation (APEC) forum.
ASEAN is the fourth largest export market and fifth largest trade partner of the US.-VNA
