ASEAN human right commission convenes 11th meeting

The 11th Meeting of the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) opened in Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of Brunei, from January 29 to February 2.
The 11th Meeting of the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on HumanRights (AICHR) opened in Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of Brunei, from January 29 to February 2.

The meeting, thefirst of its kind for the 2013-2015 term, was chaired by Dr. Pehin DatoAwang Ahmat bin Jumat, the representative of Brunei and the Chair ofAICHR.

The event focused on evaluating theprogress of the implementation of AICHR’s priority programmes andactivities, including the progress of the thematic studies in ‘CorporateSocial Responsibility (CSR) and Human Rights’, and ‘Migration and HumanRights’.

AICHR also had an extensive discussion onthe implementation of the ASEAN Human Rights Declaration (AHRD), whichwas adopted in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, last year.

At the meeting, delegates agreed to give priority to the disseminationof the landmark AHRD, by publishing the AHRD and the Phnom PenhStatement on the adoption of the AHRD in a booklet format. The AHRD willalso be translated into national languages of ASEAN members.

The next meeting of AICHR will be convened at the ASEAN Secretariat headquarters in Jakarta, Indonesia, on March 8-10. -VNA

Vietnam reaffirms commitment to building resilient, inclusive and integrated ASEAN Labour Market

To this end, Vietnam proposed three strategic priorities for ASEAN cooperation. First, ASEAN should expand and harmonise mutual recognition mechanisms by increasing the scope and number of Mutual Recognition Arrangements (MRAs) in the region; and promote the role of the ASEAN TVET Council (ATC) in connecting national skills certification systems with regional and global standards, based on national occupational skills qualification frameworks and regional references.

Vietnamese firms urged to strengthen capacity as ASEAN pushes deeper digital integration

Vietnamese businesses have established leading positions in some supply chains, including seafood, wood processing, cashew and coffee processing. However, in manufacturing and electronics, many firms remain concentrated in assembly and the supply of simple components. Vietnam advances qualifications referencing to support labour mobility in ASEAN

On August 21, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), in cooperation with the Department of Vocational and Continuing Education under the Ministry of Education and Training, held a national workshop in Hanoi to discuss the implementation of the AQRF and introduce Vietnam's AQRF Referencing Report and post-referencing action plan.

ASEAN Armies' Open Volleyball Tournament 2026 kicks off in Hanoi

Taking place until August 26, the tournament features six teams divided into two groups. Group A comprises the army teams of Vietnam, Myanmar and Cambodia, while Group B includes Ho Chi Minh City's police team, the Lao People’s Army's team and the Singapore Armed Forces' team.
