Bangkok (NNT/VNA) – An ASEAN-Japan cyber centre has been opened in Thailand to train personnel from member states to help combat cyber threats in the region.
Dubbed the ASEAN-Japan Cybersecurity Capacity Building Centre (AJCCBC), the Bangkok facility will share expertise on how to identify and act against cyber attacks as cross-border investment in the region rises, and connected technologies like the "internet of things" spread.
The idea to establish such a centre was raised during a meeting between ASEAN and Japanese ministers in Cambodia last year.
Surangkana Wayuparb, executive director of the Electronic Transaction Development Agency (ETDA), said as many as 1,000 cybersecurity personnel from ASEAN are expected to graduate in the Japan-designed programs by next year, having studied cyber defense, digital forensics and malware analysis.
She added the training programs will cost around 175 million baht.-NNT/VNA
