ASEAN-Japan cyber centre opens in Thailand

An ASEAN-Japan cyber centre has been opened in Thailand to train personnel from member states to help combat cyber threats in the region.
Bangkok (NNT/VNA) – An ASEAN-Japan cyber centre has been opened in Thailand totrain personnel from member states to help combat cyber threats in theregion. 

Dubbedthe ASEAN-Japan Cybersecurity Capacity Building Centre (AJCCBC), theBangkok facility will share expertise on how to identify and act againstcyber attacks as cross-border investment in the region rises, andconnected technologies like the "internet of things" spread. 

The idea to establish such a centre was raised during a meeting between ASEAN and Japanese ministers in Cambodia last year. 

SurangkanaWayuparb, executive director of the Electronic Transaction DevelopmentAgency (ETDA), said as many as 1,000 cybersecurity personnel from ASEANare expected to graduate in the Japan-designed programs by next year,having studied cyber defense, digital forensics and malware analysis. 

She added the training programs will cost around 175 million baht.-NNT/VNA
