Vientiane (VNA) – Journalists from ASEAN member countries are gathering in the Lao capital city of Vientiane to share experience in reporting major events.

During the four-day seminar, the reporters will introduce their countries’ big cultural festivals and have a chance to experience the That Luang Festival, the largest religious event in Laos.

In his opening remarks, Lao Deputy Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Savankhone Razmountry said the seminar forms part of a communication plan to connect people in the ten-nation group, looking towards the ASEAN Community.

ASEAN reporters play an important role in accelerating regional integration and building intra-bloc solidarity, he said.

The seminar also offers an opportunity for the journalists in particular and ASEAN citizens in general to learn about each other, especially in culture, as the official establishment of the ASEAN Community nears, the official added.

It takes place at a time when Laos is preparing for the 40th anniversary of National Day (December 2) and for the ASEAN Chairmanship the country will assume in 2016.-VNA
