Hanoi (VNA) – The 14th Conference of the ASEAN Ministers Responsible for Information (AMRI-14) opened in Singapore on May 10 under the theme of “Inclusive and Informed Digital ASEAN.”
The event brought together representatives from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) members, the ASEAN Secretariat and three ASEAN’s dialogue countries, comprising China, Japan and the Republic of Korea.
The Vietnamese delegation to the conference was led by Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Thanh Hung.
The AMRI-14 aims to build a strong and connected ASEAN via information and media, by building a digital environment and enhancing cooperation between the ten-member group and its dialogue countries.
In his opening remarks, Singaporean Minister for Communications and Information S. Iswaran stressed the significance of digital technology to economies and governments.
Minister Iswaran shared his hopes for the development of a digital ASEAN that is inclusive and where multi-stakeholder groups can come together to help citizens to be better preparedfor the digital future.
The Minister also noted that an inclusive and informed digital ASEAN reinforces this year’s chairmanship theme of building collective resilience and promoting innovation among member countries.
The participants agreed to convene the 15thAMRI and its Related Meetings with Dialogue Partners in Thailand in 2020.
