Rome (VNA) – The ASEAN needs to strengthen its position and role in Italy in the coming time, stated Vietnamese Ambassador to Italy Cao Chinh Thien.
He made the statement at a ceremony in Rome on January 12, when he assumed the chairman role of the ASEAN Committee in Rome (ACR), handed over by Philippine Ambassador to Italy Domingo P. Nolasco.
In his speech, the Vietnamese diplomat expressed his honour to undertake the responsibility and his appreciation of support from other ACR members.
Thien said he is committed to promoting the ASEAN image in the European nation and enhancing the ties between ASEAN and Italy as well as between each ASEAN member country and Italy.
He noted 2017 marks ASEAN’s 50th founding anniversary, adding that the context lays stress on ACR’s communications activities to raise awareness about ASEAN.
Founded in August 2011, the ACR comprises the Ambassadors of Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines and Thailand.
