Officials of ASEAN nations gathered at the 15th meeting of the bloc’s sub-committee on information in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on May 21 to seek ways to promote awareness of the association among its members and the world.
Has Sam Ath, an official of the Cambodian Ministry of Information, said the event will approve 13 new projects for implementation in 2015 among ASEAN countries, and examine 16 projects to be carried out between ASEAN and its dialogue partners.
Cambodian Minister of Information Khieu Kanharith said the two-day meeting will also make preparations for the 11th conference of ASEAN Ministers of Information, which will take place in Myanmar next month.
He added that the region’s media has been playing a very important role in contributing to achieving the common goals of the bloc, especially for the building of an ASEAN Community by the end of 2015.
Coverage has improved understanding of ASEAN in the international community, and bridged the bloc’s citizens with others in the world, the official claimed.
Founded in 1967, ASEAN now groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.-VNA
