ASEAN ParaGames: Vietnam claims four golds, setting new records

Vietnamese swimmers on December 4 made a splash at the ongoing ASEAN ParaGames 2015 in Singapore, bringing home three gold medals while setting two new Games records.

Singapore (VNA) – Vietnamese swimmers on December 4 made a splash at the ongoing ASEAN ParaGames 2015 in Singapore, bringing home three gold medals while setting two new Games records.

Nguyen Thanh Trung won the first gold medal for Vietnam by finishing the SB4-class men’s 100m breaststroke event with a time of 1:48.93, ahead of Voravit Kaewkham of Thailand and Ye Tun of Myanmar.

The second gold medal was won by swimmer Do Thanh Hai, who completed the SB5-class men’s 100m breaststroke event at a time of 1:43.07, which is a new Games record.

Ly Huynh, another Vietnamese swimmer, came in second at 1:48.79 and Taweesook Samuksaneeto of Thailand finished third.

The third gold medal and second Games record was achieved through Le Tien Dat, who needed only 1:37.55 to complete the SB6-class men’s 100m breaststroke event, breaking the old record.

Yongyoot Tabthong of Thailand took the silver medal and Suriansyah of Indonesia settled with a bronze medal.

Also the day, Lai Thi Ngoc Anh grabbed a gold medal in the women’s long jump event, the fourth gold medal for Vietnam, in the T44-class women’s long jump with her best jump of 3.81m, a new record and Vietnam’s third record.

Myanmar’s Inginn Khin and Nguyen Thi Thuy claimed silver and bronze medals, respectively.

Vietnam also won four silvers and five bronze medals in swimming and athletics to temporarily rank second in the overall medal table, behind Thailand, who tops the table with eight gold medals, seven silvers and five bronzes.-VNA
