ASEAN provides relief aid for Myanmar people affected by cyclone Mocha

The ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Centre) has handed over relief items for the communities severely affected by cyclone Mocha in the townships of Sittwe, Rathedaung, KyaukTaw and Ponnagyun of Myanmar.

Jakarta (VNA) - The ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Centre) has handed over relief items for thecommunities severely affected by cyclone Mocha in the townships of Sittwe, Rathedaung, KyaukTaw and Ponnagyun ofMyanmar.

According to an announcementreleased June 6, the ASEAN Emergency Response and Assessment Team(ASEAN-ERAT) has also concluded their initial needs assessment in the affectedareas in Myanmar on May 30.

The AHA Centre will mobilise the final two batches of reliefitems on June 16 and 22 by sea. The final batches, consisting of non-fooditems,d water and sanitation hygiene kits, are expected to arrive in Myanmaron June 20 and 27. ASEAN has also commenced internal discussion onpossible ASEAN’s supports for recovery phase based on assessment from the ASEANERAT Team.

ASEAN’s first batch ofhumanitarian aid arrived in Myanmar on May 21 and was among the firstemergency support received by the affected communities. Relief items mobilisedto Myanmar from the Disaster Emergency Logistics System for ASEAN (DELSA)warehouse in Subang, Malaysia, include non-food items such as shelter tools and water sanitation and hygiene kits worth 1.64 million USD in total./.
