Jakarta (VNA) - The Virtual Close-out Workshop of the ASEAN Science andTechnology Fellowship 2019-2020 was co-hosted by the ASEAN Foundation, theASEAN Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation, and the US Agency forInternational Development (USAID) on October 8.

Thefellowship provides opportunities for scientists in Southeast Asia to applytheir knowledge and analytical skills in promoting evidence-based policy makingin the region.

Duringthe two-day online workshop, the selected 17 scientists from nine ASEAN memberstates presented works on how to solve today’s challenges - COVID-19, the digitaleconomy, innovative start-ups, and technology to meet the Sustainable DevelopmentGoals (SDGs).

Togetherthey also discussed ways to take advantage of the existing network of alumni tosupport evidence-based policy making efforts.

Accordingto  USAID Director in ASEAN Ryan Washburn, since 2014, ASEAN and the US havecooperated to support 69 young scientists who worked for 29 ministerialdepartments in the region./.
