Bangkok (VNA) – A group of insurgents attacked an army patrol in southern Thailand on early September 14 killed one soldier and wounded 20 other people, including two civilians, according to Thai authorities.
Gunmen activated a roadside bomb when an army vehicle was running through a village in Yaha district, Yala province.
Just half an hour later, another bomb was detonated as bomb squad experts arrived to clear the scene. Immediately after that gunmen shot at the security forces.
The prolonged religious conflicts since 2004 have provoked daily violence in the Thai southern provinces of Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat.
Attacks in the region have killed about 6,800 people so far.-VNA.
