Australia opens door to Vietnamese agricultural workers

Vietnam's Deputy Minister of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA) Nguyen Ba Hoan and Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Andrew Goledzinowski signed a plan on March 1 to implement the Memorandum of Understanding between the two Governments to support Vietnamese citizens to work in the agricultural industry in Australia.

Hanoi (VNA)– Vietnam's Deputy Minister of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA)Nguyen Ba Hoan and Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Andrew Goledzinowski signeda plan on March 1 to implement the Memorandum of Understanding between the two Governmentsto support Vietnamese citizens to work in the agricultural industry inAustralia. The Document was announced on March 7 in Canberra.

Under the MoU, the twosides will support 1,000Vietnamese workers to work in the agricultural industry in Australia under thePacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) scheme, beginning this year.

Hoan said thatAustralia has a developed economy and modern agriculture, and the Vietnam-Australialabour cooperation will help Vietnamese workers get good incomes, guaranteedworking conditions, and opportunities to learn advanced knowledge, skills, andscience and technology. At the same time, labour cooperation in this field willmeet the needs of human resources, bringing benefits to both countries.

Several agencies andunits will be allowed to recruit workers to work in Australia's agriculturalproduction sector. Australia will coordinate with Vietnam to identify, approveand announce the list of eligible units and enterprises to participate in thePALM scheme./.
