Ba Ria-Vung Tau (VNA) – Fishing ports in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau continue to employ the electronic catch documentation and traceability system (eCDT) in vessel control to keep a close eye on fishing activities in the region.
Local fishermen have also set up the app for seafood traceability, joining efforts in having the European Commission (EC)’s “yellow card” warning against Vietnamese seafood lifted.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has asked all fishing ports to control vessels and monitor seafood output through the app from July 1, which is expected to contribute to fighting illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
Cat Lo Port in Vung Tau city, one of the ports in Ba Ria-Vung Tau eligible for post-harvest seafood origin certification, has had the app in place since March. To date, 100% of the fishing boat owners and captains have used the app to declare the output of unloaded seafood at the port and trace the origin of to-be-exported products.
Truong Van Sanh, Deputy Director of the port, said apart from electronic traceability, Cat Lo has optimised digital transformation in management and operation, towards modernity and efficiency.
In Dat Do district, all of the fishing vessel owners and captains have also received support from the provincial fishing port management board and local authorities to download the app.
Tran Van Dung, Deputy Head of the District Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Development, said thanks to efforts by competent forces, local residents are aware of the efficiency of the app and supported e-declaration.
The provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said with the app, Ba Ria-Vung Tau expects to develop a green, clean, and sustainable fishery sector./.
