The pioneering role of young people in startup and digital transformation was spotlighted at a forum held by the provincial Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCYU) committee on August 30. ​

Bac Giang (VNA) – The pioneering role of young peoplein startup and digital transformation was spotlighted at a forum held by theprovincial Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCYU) committee on August 30.

The forum was intended to help local youth adapt to and developin a world where social life is undergoing strong digital transformation. Italso looked to promote the key and pioneering role of HCYU chapters at alllevels in the process of digital transformation and application of moderntechnology.  

Delegatesto the forum made assessment on the implementation of a movement named CreativeYouth, which focuses on encouraging digital transformation, development of digitaleconomy and activities supporting startup of young people.

They also shared experiences and good practices in the movement.

According to Deputy Director of the province’s Department of Information and CommunicationNguyen Gia Phong, community-based digital technology groups have been set up acrossthe province with key members being young people. The groups have been givingguidance to each people in their community on how to use digital platforms.

By now 209 such groups at communal levels and 1,891 groups atvillage level have been formed with a total 9,950 members. The establishment ofthose groups was inspired by the community-based anti-COVID-19 groups,according to Phong.

He said the Department of Information and Communication hasasked the provincial HCYU committee to work together with local administrationsin setting up and maintaining the operation of community-based digitaltechnology groups.

Dao Thi Hoa from the HCYU committee of Luc Ngan district sharedwith the forum the results of the application of digital technology to selling farmproduce amid the complicated developments of the COVID-19 pandemic in Bac Giangin 2021. The committee coordinated with the provincial HCYU committee toconduct a programme, under which HCYU members volunteered to help local farmerssell their lychee through digital trade platforms or business matchingactivities.

This year, the Luc Ngan HCYU committee has continued to work withdigital trade platforms like Postmart, Sendo and Voso for lychee selling, Hoasaid, adding that 823 tonnes of lychee had been sold through this channel. 

Regarding young people’s role in community-based digitaltechnology groups, Duong Trong Bang from Viet Yen district’s HCYU committee saidthey face some problems such as local farmers not having smart phones orcomputers, and limited access to internet connection in remote areas.

Delegates proposed that relevant agencies should pay moreattention to investment in digital infrastructure, first of all infrastructurefor public use such as internet transmission lines, wifi networks and computersserving digital transformation in localities./.

Free bus fares drive sharp rise in ridership in Ho Chi Minh City

As of August 12, the city’s bus network had served nearly 12 million passenger trips, up about 44% year on year. On August 12 alone, around 306,000 passengers used free buses, an increase of roughly 55%, despite students having yet to officially return to school.

AIC case in Ca Mau: Nguyen Thi Thanh Nhan sentenced to 10 years in prison

The People's Court of Ca Mau province on August 12 sentenced former Chairwoman and General Director of the Advanced International Joint Stock Company (AIC) Nguyen Thi Thanh Nhan to ten years in prison for "violating bidding regulations, causing serious consequences" in a case involving the inflation of equipment prices for environmental monitoring stations in the former Bac Lieu province (now Ca Mau province).
