Bangladeshi fund shares climate change response experience

In the delegation’smeeting with the provincial People’s Committee, Managing Director of theFoundation Abdul Karim said climate change has had adverse impacts onsocial-economic development of countries bearing the brunt of itseffects.

He introduced the foundation’sactivities as well as measures Bangladesh has taken to minimise theimpacts of climate change, such as developing rice varieties and treespecies suitable for each individual region and building flood-resistanthouses and irrigation systems.

Vice Chairman ofthe provincial People’s Committee Tran Xuan Hoa said the foundation’sactivities and models present ideas and solutions for the province andother vulnerable localities in responding to climate change.

Ninh Thuan has been implementing climate change response initiativesacross its mountainous, midland and lowland areas in an attempt toretain water supply, Hoa said.

Construction ofdams, efforts to prevent saltwater intrusion and connecting reservoirsto serve farming practices are all underway as well, Hoa added.-VNA
