A 47-year-old woman who resided in the Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre has died of A/H1N1 influenza after several days of treatment.
According to Nguyen Van Thang, Deputy Director of the Ben Tre provincial Department of Health, this was the first death of A/H1N1 in the locality this year.
The patient fell ill on June 6 and then was given first aid at Ben Tre-based Minh Duc Hospital on June 10.
She was shortly transferred to Pham Ngoc Thach Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City for intensive care, but passed away two days later.
Testing results showed that the patient was positive for A/H1N1 influenza.
Previously, on May 28, a man from the Binh Dai district was admitted to hospital with flu-like symptoms such as cough, fever and sore throat.
He was tested positive for A/H1N1 at Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City. At present his health shows signs of recovery but he is still in hospital for further treatment.
In early 2013, Ben Tre province also recorded an A/H1N1-infected case in Mo Cay Bac district. This patient recovered from the disease.-VNA
