Binh Thuan (VNA) – The “Life’s Journey”programme was launched in the central province of Binh Thuan on October 19 bythe National Fund for Vietnamese Children and the AIA Vietnam Life InsuranceCo., Ltd in order to raise funds for disadvantaged children.
The programme started with a cycling event along mainstreets of Phan Thiet city which was joined by around 300 people.
At the event, 70 bikes and five education packets totaling over220 million VND (9,684 USD) were presented to disadvantaged students in theprovince.
Every year, over 200,000 Vietnamese students drop out ofschool, and one of the main reasons is the long distances they have to travel onfoot. In remote areas, many students need to walk between five and tenkilometres to the nearest school.
Therefore, the programme, which began on 2014, aims to helppoor students continue pursuing their learning.
The programme has so far granted over 4,000 bikes to needychildren in over 50 provinces and cities.-VNA
