Binh Thuan (VNA) – The “Life’s Journey” programme was launched in the central province of Binh Thuan on October 19 by the National Fund for Vietnamese Children and the AIA Vietnam Life Insurance Co., Ltd in order to raise funds for disadvantaged children.

The programme started with a cycling event along main streets of Phan Thiet city which was joined by around 300 people.

At the event, 70 bikes and five education packets totaling over 220 million VND (9,684 USD) were presented to disadvantaged students in the province.

Every year, over 200,000 Vietnamese students drop out of school, and one of the main reasons is the long distances they have to travel on foot. In remote areas, many students need to walk between five and ten kilometres to the nearest school.

Therefore, the programme, which began on 2014, aims to help poor students continue pursuing their learning.

The programme has so far granted over 4,000 bikes to needy children in over 50 provinces and cities.-VNA
