Shares failed to retain gains in Ho Chi Minh City’s bourse while managing to advance in Hanoi on July 23.
On the HCM Stock Exchange, the VN-Index edged down 0.37 percent to 504.29 points.
Trading value reached around 90 percent of July 22's level, totalling 1.25 trillion VND (58.9 million USD) as over 53 million shares changed hands.
The VN30, tracking the southern bourse's top 30 shares, also declined 0.2 percent to 556.79 points with only seven stocks closing in the green. Kinh Do Confectionery Co (KDC) led the rise, climbing by 3.4 percent.
On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the benchmark HNX-Index rose 0.3 percent to 62.99 points. However, trading remained sluggish with just 17.5 million shares worth 134.76 billion VND (6.3 million USD) exchanged.
Blue chips in Hanoi drove the HNX30 up 0.04 percent to 118.93 points.
Foreign investors were net buyers on both bourses by a combined margin of 29 billion VND (1.3 million USD).-VNA
