Phnom Penh (VNA) - The Government of Cambodia has handed out roughly 381 million USD for its cash relief programme to support nearly 660,000 families hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic, reported the national news agency AKP.
The financial support has been transferred to poor and vulnerable people since the programme was launched in June last year.
The Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans, and Youth Rehabilitation said in a recent press release that the cash relief programme was completed for five rounds.
As many as 658,857 families, composed of 2.6 million people in total, benefited from the programme during the period, the ministry said.
About 95 percent of the total ID Poor families are in rural areas, while the rest in urban areas, said the same source, adding that the sixth round was kicked off on July 25.
People who have verified ID poor certifications are eligible to receive the cash handout with the money being transferred via Wing agents throughout the country.
Each poor family is given 30 USD per month including an additional 10 USD per family member and another 10 USD for any children under the age of five, people with disabilities, senior citizens, or those who are HIV/AIDS positive.
Last week, more than 6 million workers in the non-official economic sector lost their jobs or were to lose jobs due to the adverse impacts of COVID-19, according to a report of the Cambodian Ministry of Planning./.
