Phnom Penh (VNA) – A court of Cambodia's Sihanoukville has issued arrest warrants for four suspects involved in the collapse of a seven-storey building in Preah Sihanouk province on June 22 that has led to heavy casualties.
The suspects are Chinese nationals, consisting of the building owner, the person in charge of construction, the contractor and the construction site manager. They were charged with unintentional homicide.
The search and rescue work concluded on late June 24. The bodies of 28 victims were found while 26 workers were seriously injured.
The Cambodian Government has offered 70,000 USD as support to the family of each dead victim. Meanwhile, each injured one will receive 10,000 USD.
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said at a press conference in Sihanoukville on June 24 that authorised agencies will investigate the cause of the collapse as well as the legality of the construction.
This is the most deadly building collapse in Cambodia in recent years. Prime Minister Hun Sen dismissed a number of high-ranking officials following the incident.-VNA
